At Littlebrook Nursery we operate a Key Person System. Each child is assigned a member of the team, called a 'Key Person', in their group room. The Key Person is responsible for helping both you and your child to settle into the nursery. During this process the Key Person will ask you to complete a booklet about your child’s home routine, language and communication, important people in their life and particular interests. This is to ensure that the transition from home to nursery is smooth and important information about your child is shared.
The Key Person will meet the needs of your child and respond sensitively to their feelings and daily routine needs. The Key Person will offer security, reassurance and continuity of care. Alongside you, they are in the best position to understand your child's individual needs and to share information with you about your child’s experiences in nursery.
The progress of all children is monitored using the ’learning journals’. These are updated regularly and provide an effective way of monitoring your child's progress. You are free to look at these at any time as they are accessible to view in your child’s room. We invite you to regularly contribute to the journals with information about your child’s home life, activities enjoyed and any adventures!
The Key Person will write an assessment report twice a year based on your child’s development and progress at the Nursery. The report will be linked to the EYFS so it clearly shows your child’s achievements and staff observations. We hold an informal parents evening where will invite all parents to come along to view the learning journals and prepared report.
